LIVINGSTON

Livingston County Wills, Estates, Deeds

Livingston County was formed in 1798 from land in Christian County. The county seat is Smithland. By 1840 the town had grown to such an extent that the northern section and the county seat were relocated to Smithland where a new courthouse was built.

The Overland Trail

The emigrants to Tennessee participated in land grants in western territories during the 18th century. They came from port cities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and North Carolina and crossed the Blue Ridge Mountains and Cumberland Valley in wagon trains. Their lot was not only to build homes but to defend their families against American Indian attacks.
